Résumé : Microorganisms developed different senses and ecological strategies to adapt to environmental fluctuations. Magnetoreception is one of these senses by which some prokaryotes and eukaryotes are able to orient and navigate in response to changing magnetic fields. While magnetotactic bacteria are known for decades to be magnetically responsive thanks to the biomineralization of magnetic crystals, recent studies unraveled novel strategies involved in such a sensing in unicellular eukaryotes. During my seminar, I will present the current knowledge on the different magnetic behaviors and the underlying mechanisms in the microbial world.
